LIFE! When it rains it pours I guess!

I've had an emotional and medical filled week for sure. We started off with a thyroid fine needle biopsy- basically you get these needles put into your thyroid through the outside of your neck- OUCH! Then we had Blake's 1st dental appt.- he LOVED it! The next day we woke up at 4:45 a.m. and headed over to Children's Hospital in Seattle for his tubes/adenoids procedure on Wednesday.

Oh the drama of getting up early... not being able to eat... and anesthesia on a child! Poor guy couldn't eat anything from midnight until after his procedure- he was not thrilled to see other people eating on the ferry and when it finally came time for him to put a gown on for his procedure- we thought he was going to lose it (low blood sugar is not a good thing for that boy). His procedure went well, but then coming out of the anesthesia was RETCHED! He was either going to fight or flight and in his case he fought all the way! Scratching (I forgot to de-claw the monster before his appt- Oops... I paid for it), clawing, biting, power thrusting his body forward and back, struggling, wrestling, continual attempts to pull out his IV- finally they sedated him after 30 minutes of agony and he went directly into this almost comatose state of sleep from 10:30 a.m. until after 3:00 p.m. He started to come to, puked a few times, was struggling again, and finally he was ready to leave! The only thing was he needed to be hydrated and he refused to eat EVERYTHING they had to offer. He was set on a "pink" popsicle and all they had were red, purple and orange. Luckily the cafeteria had pink! Thank God! We finally got out of there about 5:30 and bee-lined for the ferry. We made the 6:20! But, while we were waiting for the ferry line up I got a phone call regarding my biopsy.

I was told I had papillary carcinoma!!! I LOST IT! I had very little sleep, had cried a lot during Blake's recovery, was purely exhausted and then this! You've got to be kidding me. Any other day I had received that info and I would have been ok with it... but today I was done!

After getting home and getting under control with things, I did some research and found out that more than likely they would need to do a partial or complete thyroidectomy to determine the stage or if it had spread to lymph nodes. I saw a surgeon on Friday- and he concurred with all of this. Now I have a 2nd opinion scheduled next week and we'll go from there. I'm not thrilled about the concept of going under, having a surgery, or having a scar on my neck forever and least thrilled about having to go on medication for life more than likely. But life goes on.... so I'm just trying to focus on life right now then on the medical crap!

Friends and family have been wonderful!! We are blessed to have so many wonderful friends, and supportive family here with us.

Anyhow, there goes the update! And look- Blake is happy again!

Blake and his ears

Runny Nose... grumpy boy... lots of tissues all over the house... BOOM- EAR INFECTION! Can I tell you how much I hate them? I hate seeing Blake in pain, I really don't like restless nights... and the feisty little bugger he turns into- yuck! I can't wait to have well and maybe the attitude and feisty little brutish behavior will go out the window with the procedure! Once can only hope, right?!

He really is my sweet little boy when he wants to be... especially when he's left to his own accord for awhile... the games and things he does are amazing- all by himself... creative little bugger!

Mother's Day

I went to the gym (great dance class by the way at PAC on every other Sunday morning) which was great time to myself, perfect way to start off the day. Then raced home to get dressed to go and serve other moms (single moms and those whose husbands are deployed) at a brunch our church was sponsoring... turned out to get brunch myself (was a surprising treat). We did make it to see Granny today too... she is always so much fun for the kids... an 85+ woman that will get down on her knees and play with kids- amazing!

Did I forget to mention that my sweet daughter Chloe was ALL OVER Mother's Day? She has been drawing pictures, made a book all about why she loves me, and made jewelry, made a potted plant basket at school... and drumroll please... she woke up at 6:30 this morning (on her own... an hour and a half before I needed to be up myself) and made me breakfast (just yogurt with granola- a staple for me)... VERY SWEET! Then she asked if she could do anything to make my day special? What a doll! After dinner and opening all her homemade presents and a few other things(coolest new travel mug... called the "not a paper cup" (http://aplusrstore.com/product_detail.php?show=product&pid=282&gclid=CLHQleGHoJMCFSN6IgodLREOqQ), she played the piano for me... so thoughtful... even a Frenchy song... that girl is always soaking things up!

Anyhow, after the brunch, we came home, and Kent took Chloe to the pool and Blake took a nap... peace! I love peace! We had an easy dinner, and Kent opened a great bottle of wine. We love this wine called the Meditrina from Sokol Blosser Winery. http://www.sokolblosser.com/. What a great drinkable red... yummy way to end the evening! Kent then bathed the kids, got them in jammies and into bed... how else would I have the time to post this? Happy Mother's Day to everyone! It is a tough job, but such a gift too.

Did I mention that when Blake was home with me today he was a nut case of a goof ball? Running around in his own little world... you have to see
